Sahara Hayes

Representative Hayes

District 32

Sahara Hayes was elected in 2023 to represent Utah’s House District 32. She currently serves on the Business, Economic Development, and Labor Appropriations Committee, as well as the House Government Operations and Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Standing Committees.

In her first year in office, Representative Hayes successfully passed legislation with a focus on youth suicide prevention and introduced a bill to incorporate gender-affirming surgical care into state employee insurance plans. Her advocacy extends to championing the rights of LGBTQ+ Utahns and working to increase mental health resources for students. Representative Hayes has deep ties to the district she now serves, and her guiding principle is to ensure that the voices of her constituents are heard and represented in the legislature.

Beyond her political commitments, Representative Hayes is a grant writer with extensive experience in both local government and nonprofit sectors. She previously served on the Millcreek Community Council and the Board of Directors for the Utah Cultural Celebration Center Foundation. In her leisure time, she is an avid reader, hiker, and knitter, and she enjoys taking aerial arts classes. She resides in Millcreek with her partner, Lily, and a small pack of beloved pets.
