Utah House Democratic Caucus Encourages Reauthorization and Expansion of the Radiation Exposure Compensation Acts

“We strongly support the continuation of funding for the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) to assist downwinders affected by nuclear testing, acknowledging the significant health impacts on individuals and communities exposed to radiation fallout. Extending this compensation is essential to provide justice and support to those dealing with the enduring effects of nuclear testing activities.

As RECA nears its expiration in June 2024, many survivors face the risk of being overlooked and without support. We urge our federal delegation to extend RECA and broaden its coverage, specifically including victims in northern Utah and other affected areas suffering from radiation-related illnesses. There is a pressing need for a bill that not only reauthorizes RECA coverage but also expands its benefits.”
